What to Expect Per Session with AI Scalp

AI Scalp is a gradual treatment designed to build natural, soft density over time.

 

 Session 1: A foundation layer of subtle shading is created. Results may not look dramatic or immediately visible, but this first stage is essential to begin the process.

 

Session 2: We begin adding more pigment, focusing on areas that appear lighter to start building density and balance.

 

Session 3 (and beyond): Density is deepened and evened out, creating a fuller, more natural look. Most clients notice the biggest transformation from this stage onward.

Client can then opt for additional sessions 

 

Because our technique is subtle, the first session should not be expected to deliver extreme results. The shading we create lays the groundwork, which develops into visible density as we layer each treatment. For optimal results three sessions are required.

The Process

• Consultation: Each client begins with an in-person or virtual consultation to assess suitability and discuss goals.

• Treatment Sessions: A minimum of 3 sessions is required (sometimes up to 5 , depending on hair density and goals). Sessions are carried out every 2 weeks.

• Application: Using a specialist SPMU (semi-permanent makeup) machine set to a very precise depth, pigments are applied in a soft, powdery shading technique that blends seamlessly into natural hair.

• Pigments Used: Medical-grade, permeable pigments designed specifically for scalp work are used. They are formulated to fade naturally over 12–24 months without discolouration. Colours are selected to match or complement natural hair (typically black, black-brown, or chocolate brown).​

Why it Differs from SMP

• Depth: AI Scalp pigments are placed at a shallower depth than traditional SMP, meaning results are softer and more natural.

• Finish: AI Scalp creates the look of density and shading, whereas SMP is often used for a shaved-head effect with sharp, visible dots.

• Longevity: AI Scalp is designed to fade evenly after 12–24 months, avoiding the risk of pigments turning blue or green over time, which can sometimes occur with SMP.

• Suitability: It’s ideal for clients who want to keep their existing hair but add density and thickness, rather than creating a shaved style.

Am I suitable ?

AI scalp is suitable for those who are suffering from hair thinning and require more density. Extreme hairloss unfortunately is not suitable - please email photos to aihairscalp@gmail.com to see your suitability.

 

Book Your Consultation

At AI Scalp, we want to make the process of starting your hair density journey as simple and accessible as possible.

You can choose to book either:

• In-Person Consultation – meet with one of our trained technicians at one of our clinic locations.

• Virtual Consultation – available for clients who prefer the comfort of home. Virtual consultations must be booked at least 7 days in advance to allow us to send out a patch test and any necessary documentation before your session.​​

What's our refund and cancellation policy?

We operate a strictly no refunds policy. We require 48 hour notice period to reschedule or cancel an appointment, if your appointment is cancelled or rescheduled within this time frame you will be required to pay the full price of the session.

Does the treatment hurt?

• Most clients describe the sensation as mild discomfort rather than pain.

• Numbing cream can be applied 15–20 minutes before the session to minimise sensitivity.

• Some areas of the scalp may feel more sensitive (such as the hairline or crown).

How many sessions will I need?

• Every client is different. We always say a minimum of 3 sessions, but some clients may need up to 5 for full density.

• Sessions are spaced every 2 weeks to allow healing and pigment settling.

• The results are built gradually, layer by layer, to avoid overworking the skin.

How long do results last?

• Results typically last 12–24 months depending on skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare.

• Pigment fades naturally and evenly — it will not change colour or discolour.

• A top-up session may be needed after this time to maintain results.

Will pigment stain my hair?

• No — pigment is applied only to the skin (dermal layer), not the hair shaft.

• Hair fibres remain unaffected, and the pigment fades naturally over time.​

What colours are available?

• Pigments currently available: Black, Black Brown, and Chocolate Brown.

• We can also order specific tones for dark blonde clients, but we do not currently treat light blondes.

• We can work with Greys, black, dark brown, mid brown, light brown, dark blonde, red hair.

Who is suitable for AI Scalp?

• Men and women experiencing thinning, patterned hair loss, or patchy beards.

• Clients who are at least 12 months post-hair transplant.

• Clients with stable scalp conditions and realistic expectations.

​

Who is not suitable?

• Clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

• Clients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

• Clients with active scalp infections, psoriasis, eczema flare-ups, or open wounds.

• Clients with a history of keloid scarring.

Can I use hair loss medications alongside AI Scalp?

• Minoxidil: Stop 7 days before treatment, resume once healing has completed.

• Finasteride: Safe to continue.

• Steroids or blood thinners: Require GP/medical clearance before starting treatment.

How do I care for my scalp after treatment?

• Keep the area clean and dry for 24 hours.

• Avoid touching, scratching, or washing the scalp immediately after.

• Sleep on an old towel and wear the provided shower cap overnight.

• Full wash is safe after 24 hours.

• Avoid direct sun exposure, swimming, and saunas until fully healed.
